At the January 13, 2020 General Business Meeting, the Commission approved five-year charter school contracts with conditions to the following charter schools:
- Laupāhoehoe Community Public Charter School
- Volcano School of Arts & Sciences
- Waimea Middle Public Conversion Charter School
- Kamaile Academy
Here is the list of conditions for each school:
Laupāhoehoe Community Public Charter School:
Starting on July 1, 2020, all governing board members shall go through approved annual training and third-party evaluation of the governing board, conducted by June 15 of each year.
Provide an executed, AG-approved MOU/agreements; no later than May 31, 2020.
The school shall be at or above the complex area (or like demographic) proficiency rates in ELA, Math, and Science at the end of the fourth year of the Contract, as reported in the State’s accountability report. Should the school not meet this condition, the school shall surrender its charter at the end of the contract term (fifth year).
The school’s current virtual program shall meet the Commission’s Blended Online Guidelines, and continue for the first year of its new contract and shall not expand beyond its current approved enrollment (130 students in grades kindergarten through twelfth grade). The virtual program shall sunset at the end of the first year of the new contract (June 30th 2021), provided that the school may apply for approval from the Commission to implement its own-school developed virtual curriculum starting in the second year of its new contract.
Volcano School of Arts & Sciences:
Provide an AG approved lease for Old Volcano Road site and/or all required permits for instructional site(s); no later than May 31, 2020.
The school’s current blended program shall meet the Commission’s Blended Online Guidelines of the renewal contract and shall be allowed to expand beyond its current approved enrollment to 60 students in grades one through ten.
Waimea Middle Public Conversion Charter School:
Starting on July 1, 2020, all governing board members shall go through approved annual training and third-party evaluation of the governing board, conducted by June15, 2021
Provide an executed, AG-approved MOU/agreements; no later than May 31, 2020.
